The Perilya Way is to operate in a manner that is safe and does not accept unsafe behaviours.  

We want every employee, contractor and visitor to go home safe at the end of their working shift.  We hold ourselves and each other to account for this.

We achieve this by:

  • Empowering all employees to stop unsafe work, even if it halts production.
  • Caring for each other and encouraging safe behaviour in others.
  • Encouraging everyone to take responsibility for health and safety and clearly describing individual responsibilities in our role descriptions.  
  • Demonstrating visible leadership that provides recognition for safe behaviours and consequences for acting unsafely.
  • Providing and maintaining an integrated health and safety management system that supports best practice.
  • Engaging our workforce and regularly reviewing our performance to achieve continual improvement.

injury and rehabilitation policy

Perilya will ensure that for any workplace injury, illness or disability a treatment plan is implemented that combines prompt medical treatment with, where required, a staged rehabilitation program.

Following a workplace injury, illness or disability it is normal practice that employees be encouraged to:

  • return to their pre-accident job at the earliest possible time or
  • return to light or alternative duties as part of their rehabilitation when suitable light or alternative duties are available or alternatively
  • access the services of an approved vocational rehabilitation provider to consider options for a return to other gainful employment either with Perilya or with another employer.

fitness for work policy

Perilya is committed to ensuring the Safety and Health of all individuals associated with its operations. Perilya will endeavour to ensure that all individuals are fit for work and able to perform to standards set by the company while on its sites. This will be achieved through a process of education, awareness, assistance, referral to counselling and, if required, disciplinary procedures.

Perilya recognises that an individual’s fitness for work may be affected for a variety of reasons including the adverse effects of fatigue, stress, alcohol, or other drugs and through its’ Fitness For Work Policy, shall provide a framework to deal with these difficult and often sensitive issues.

Perilya shall provide a safe working environment for all individuals on Company Sites by:

  • taking all reasonable precautions to ensure that whilst at work, employees and contractors are free from risk of injury caused by themselves or others not being fit for work
  • providing assistance through a full range of preventative, educational and rehabilitative measures to overcome problems that could impair individuals fitness for work
  • ensuring that all employees deemed unfit for work are dealt with in an effective, fair and constructive manner.

Perilya personnel shall share the responsibility by:

  • ensuring that they are fit for work at the start of and throughout the work period
  • ensuring that they notify their supervisor if, at any time, they have doubts about whether they are fit for work
  • reporting all safety issues to Management.

Acceptance of responsibilities is essential to the success of the policy.

The Perilya Way is to prevent or otherwise manage the harmful effects of our activities on the environment.  We hold ourselves and each other to account for this.

We achieve this by:

  • Empowering employees to work in an environmentally responsible way and stop any activity that will result in non-compliance.
  • Caring for the environment and encouraging environmentally responsible behaviour in others.
  • Encouraging everyone to take responsibility for the environment and clearly describing individual environmental responsibilities in our role descriptions.  
  • Demonstrating visible leadership that provides recognition for environmentally responsible behaviours in identifying, assessing and managing environmental risk and also consequences for non-compliance.
  • Providing and maintaining an integrated environment management system that supports best practice.
  • Engaging our workforce and host communities and regularly reviewing our performance to achieve continuous improvement.

emergency policy

An emergency is any situation which is, or could potentially be, a threat to the safety of people, property or the environment.

The objectives of Perilya’s Emergency policy are to prevent or minimise:

  • injury to persons
  • property loss or damage
  • production loss
  • detrimental impact upon the environment and wildlife.

These objectives will be achieved by establishment and maintenance of a capability to quickly identify and professionally respond to any accident, incident or hazardous situation.

Perilya is committed to ensuring the components of prevention, preparedness, response and recovery are exercised and addressed at all times in order to achieve the aforementioned objectives.
